Holy Spirit Teach Me about: The Shield of Faith and the Fiery Darts

"In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one." Ephesians 6:16

Shield – use as protection against missiles

Faith – being convinced that God’s Word is true and you can believe it and rely on it.

Extinguish – cause a fire to cease to burn

Flaming – burning strongly with fire

Dart – a missile that is thrown

Negative words and actions thrown at me are the fiery darts of the enemy which can enter into me and wound my soul, grieve my spirit, and make my body sick.

These fiery darts can not only wound me but ignite a reaction within me such as anger or bitterness or unforgiveness. These are strong feelings that are not easily extinguished if they get ignited in me.

A shield represents the protection of God. And faith is compared to a shield.

God wants to protect me from the fiery darts that will be thrown at me. Fiery darts are the lies and deceptions of the enemy and only the truth of God’s Word can deflect them. Only the shield of faith, being convinced that God’s Word is true and I can believe it and rely on it, held up against the lies and deceptions of the enemy can deflect and extinguish them before they can ignite anger or bitterness or unforgiveness within me.

"No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me," Says the Lord. Isaiah 54:17

"I have stored up Your Word in my heart, that I might not sin against You." Psalm 119:11

Holy Spirit, help me to take up the shield of faith. For when I take up the Word of God and see what God has said regarding any situation and then trusting in the truth of what He says and doing what He says can I be delivered from the fiery darts of the enemy. Help me to always remember that God is my shield of faithful protection to deflect and extinguish the fiery darts of the enemy before they can harm me.

"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." James 4:7
