Holy Spirit Teach Me about: The Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God

"the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God." Ephesians 6:17b.

Sword – a weapon which symbolizes power. It is sharp-edged on both sides

Hebrews 4:12 tells me: "For the Word of God is living and powerful. Sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of joints, and marrow. It is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

A warrior carries his sword in his hand so that he is ready to do battle with the enemy at all times. A warrior may have on all his protective armor to protect himself but without the sword he cannot attack and defeat the enemy.

The Word of God is the sword I need to do battle with the enemy and defeat him.

The Word of God also helps me understand the difference between my soul and my spirit. My spirit always wants to do things God’s way but my soul does not always want to be obedient. The enemy can influence my soul.

Marrow – the nourisher and strengthener of my joints

Marrow is symbolic of my spirit. Joints is symbolic of my soul.

My spirit wants to nourish and strengthen my soul to be obedient to God.

Holy Spirit, help me to understand that the Word of God explains to me clearly what is of God and what is not of God. The Word of God will reveal to me the wrong thoughts that I have and the wrong intents of my heart.

It is important for my soul to listen to the guidance the Holy Spirit is giving to my spirit through the Word of God and reject the lies and deceptions of the devil.

James 4:7 tells me: " So place yourselves under God’s authority. Resist the devil, and he will run away from you."

This scripture is encouraging me to place myself fully under God’s authority. This means allowing the Holy Spirit to instruct my spirit through the Word of God so my spirit can nourish and strengthen my soul to be obedient to God.

And this scripture tells me I must resist the devil. How can I do that? By knowing God’s Truth through His Word and obeying it and rejecting the lies and deceptions of the devil.

This scripture also tells me that the devil will run away (flee) from me. Why? Because I have armed myself with the Sword of the Spirit (the Word of God) and it is a powerful weapon to attack and defeat the enemy.

"Your Word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path." Psalm 119:105

Light always makes the darkness flee.
